
The second National Intermediate of the season took place in Celbridge snooker club on Saturday Feb.8. Play began at 10.45 with 44 players in the draw.
At the semi-final stage Colvin O’Brien from The Ivy Rooms was defeated by Wayne Doyle from Dublin by 3 frames to 2 in a very tight match with the issue in doubt right up to the end.
The second semi was contested by Martin Thorpe from Newbridge CYMS and Richie Flynn from Norris’s in Waterford. Richie ran out a convincing winner by 3 frames to nil.
The final was a very Competitive match despite the 3 – 1 score line, with most of the frames being decided on the colours. Wayne maintained his good early form and fully deserved his win.
Karl Ellis won the high break prize with an 84 in his first frame of the day. Well done to everyone.
Presenting the prizes T D Tony Thorpe complimented all the players for their sportsmanship throughout the day, especially Wayne and Richie. He thanked Phil Martin and James Geraghty from Celbridge SC for their attention and hospitality during the event. Also, referee Shane Corr for officiating at the final.
