The 6th ladies ranking event took place in Celbridge on Sunday 22nd of March. Cathy hunt played Katie French in the q-finals and had a comprehensive and solid 3-0 win to book a place in the semi-final against Michelle Sherwin.
Claire Mill returned today after missing a few tournaments this season with a back injury. Claire played Rhonda Sheldreck and looked very enthusiastic and refreshed, beating Rhonda 3-0 to meet Michelle French in the other semi-final.
Rhonda showed some excellent improvement in her game since the coaching session with PJ Nolan last week. Michelle Sherwin and Cathy Hunt had an excellent match. Sherwin won the match 3-0, but the scoreline did not reflect the match, in which each frame was very tight and could have gone either way. Both players were excellent in their safety play, and the snooker was a very high standard.
Claire Mill also showed how much she had gotten from last weeks coaching session with PJ. Having spent the week practicing the routines set out by PJ, she looked focused and confident. In their semi-final Michelle French never really got a look in in the match, as a rejuvenated Mill romped to 3-0 win in just over an hour, scoring heavily in each frame, and although French had some great individual pots, she was no match for Mill today.
In the final Sherwin got off to a great start, comfortably going into a 2-0 lead. Mill just couldn’t get her arm going in the final. In the 3rd frame Mill had 2 x 30+ breaks to bring the scoreline to 2-1. The 4th frame was close until the colours, when Sherwin cleared from green to black to take the frame and match by 3-0.
A big thanks goes out once again to Phil and all the staff at Celbridge for their wonderful hospitality. The next ladies event will be the 6 reds championship in Newbridge CYMS on Sunday 22nd April.
