Jeong M Park Wins Ladies Intermediate 1

The first ladies Intermediate ranking event of the season took place in Newbridge CYMS on Sunday 18th October. This was the first ever RIBSA ladies Intermediate ranking event and was hailed a great success.

This intermediate was well contested as Jeong Min Park faced newcomer Sandra McCann.  Joeng Min Park was very consistent and Sandra was nervous at her first outing.  Park won the match 2-0, but it certainly wasn’t one way traffic with Sandra potting some excellent balls.  Sandra showed some great promise, she only picked up a cue for the first time 5 months ago to play pool and has only being playing snooker for a few weeks.  She is a very solid natural player and will certainly be a player to be reckoned with very soon.

Parks win set up a semi-final match up with Ronda Sheldreck.  Park was again very good in this match and although Ronda put up a good fight, Park was just too good today, comfortably winning the match 2-0.

The other interesting match was the semi-final in the other half of the draw with youngster Katie French playing Maria Murray.  Katie won the first frame on the black ball after a tight frame throughout.  In the 2nd frame Maria held the lead throughout the frame, but Katie came back at her on the colours to set up another black ball game.  Katie attempted a long pot; the black jangled in the pocket and stuck there right over the pocket.  It was tough to keep the white out while potting the black and in an effort to do so Maria narrowly missed the black altogether to give Katie the frame and match.

This first intermediate final was contested by the two youngest players in Irish Ladies snooker.  The 1st frame could have gone to either player but Park came on good at the end to take the 1st frame.  Park hit the form in the 2nd frame she had showed in her 1st two matches and won the frame comfortably to win the match 2-0 and take the first Intermediate title of the year.

RIBSA ladies would like to thank Newbridge CYMS for the use of their wonderful club yet again, and we would also like to thank Parks father for all of his help.
