On Wednesday the 28th of October RIBSA attended a Sports Conference for Women and Girls at Dublin Castle. This conference was hosted jointly by the Department of Justice and Equality and Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
In attendance were RIBSA Chairman Jim Leacy, National Coach PJ Nolan and National Ladies Champion Michelle Sherwin. This conference was all about building up the structures in developing ladies sport within Ireland. The opening address were made by Minister Joan Burton and the Minister of Sport and Tourism Michael Ring.
Keynote speakers on the day were from a wide range of sports from Rugby to Athletics and included speakers from Gender Equality Commission. CEO’s from Swim Ireland and ladies golf Union gave presentations on how they increase ladies membership, volunteers and safeguard children.
The Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association have introduced a new format of promoting women in sport this season and all Ladies tournaments will have free entry into all events.
RIBSA is the only official ladies snooker association in Ireland and the goal for the season is to hold two events on the same day with an Intermediate level and a senior level ranking tournament.
