The inaugural RIBSA National U 21’s Ladies Snooker Championships was contested between Nicoletti Flynn and Katie French in Newbridge CYMS on Saturday the 23rd of April. Both players were having to contend with illness, with Katie having a bad flu and Nicoletti having broken her toe the day before.
There is nothing between these two, always having close frames and today was no different. Nicoletti had a good lead in the first frame but Katie kept her cool composure and came back to be 2 ahead on the pink. Katie played a safety on the pink and fluked it into the corner pocket leaving herself an easy black to take the first frame.
The second frame was also close, this time Katie had the early lead, but Nicoletti came back and finished with the pink and black to win the frame, after Katie had narrowly missed a great effort at the pink to the middle to win the match.
The third frame was tight throughout, but Katie nudged ahead and had an 18 point lead with 1 red remaining. Again Nicoletti dug in and came back into the game, and eventually won the frame by taking blue and pink to lead by 8 and win the frame and match.
RIBSA Ladies National Coach Michelle Sherwin said both girls played a great game and the manner in which it was played, were a credit to themselves. Big congratulations go to Nicoletti on winning the RIBSA National U-21 title.
