Day 1 of the 2017 World IBSF Under 18 Snooker Championships in Beijing China saw all the three great wins against China. India and Germany for our Irish players Noel Landers, Darragh Cusack and Ronan Whyte. The Irish trio played two matches each today.
Noel Landers played Digvijay Kadian from India in his first match and played great to win 3-0, but he later lost to Brian Ochoiski from France 1-3. He goes into today’s match against Mohammadreza Ajdarian from Iran focused on attempting to qualify for the knock outs.
Darragh Cusack played Haowei Wang from China in his opening match and the Dubliner played his best ever snooker to win 3-0, He then was beaten 3-1 by Dylan Emery from Wales in a close match and he plays Muhammad Naseem Akhtar from Pakistan with a win to guarantee the Irish man a place in the knock out rounds.
Ronan Whyte playing in his first match International event impressed with a 3-1 victory over Loris Lehmann from Germany. He later lost to Peifan Lei from China 3 frames to nil and he will need to beat Phuttakarn Kimsuk from Thailand tomorrow to qualify for the knock outs
The world’s U-18’s is from the 8th -12th of July and from the 12th – 16th of July the World Under 21 Championship will held. Shane Bates and Aaron Holland along with Noel Landers, Darragh Cusack and Ronan Whyte will compete in the World U-21’s Championships for the Republic of Ireland.
Action gets underway again at 10am local time +8hrs (Irish Time) in the Chinese Snooker Academy with our players final group match and with only two qualifying from each group our boys are focused on giving it 100%.
