Wales capture Celtic Challenge Title

Wales captured the 2011 Celtic Challenge by 100 frames to 80 after a long days play for all the juniors involved on July 2nd in the Ivy Rooms. The Welsh juniors were just too strong for our youngsters on the day and although after the second session we had tied level the 3rd and 4th session of the day saw the young Welsh lads pull away from the Irish with some great snooker being played by all.

Josh Boileau was by far our most experienced player on the day in the Under-16 age group and Josh won four of his five matches as did young Ross Doyle while Chris Duffy and Fiachra McGinty shone for the Under-14’s. Josh also took the high break plaudits on the day knocking in breaks of 60,62 and 67 with Welsh youngster Surai Sing also knocking in a superb 66 break.

All in all it was a superb event for both sets of youngsters who got nearly as many International matches under their belt today as they will in a week at the upcoming Home Internationals in Wales this September. It was also great to see the huge support for the youngsters with numerous family and friends supporting the event from both countries and they were all looked after superbly again by the Ivy Rooms and Jim and Marian Leacy.
