The 2nd Ladies Ranking Event took place in Breakers, Gorey on Sunday 5th November. Treasa Keagan played Michelle French in the 1st q-final. It was a very close fought match but Michelle managed to win the match 3-1. The other q-final Sandra Bryan took on newcomer Cathy Hunt. This was bound to be a good match as cathy also plays pool with Sandra and they are sitting numbers 2 and 3 in the national rankings. Cathy cleared brilliantly in frame 1 to come from behind and win the frame on the pink; and then went on to take the next frame and a 2-0 lead. with her back against the wall, Sandra showed her experience now at the game, and kept her cool to win the next 2 frames and level the match at 2-2. The final frame was a nailbiter which went all the way to the wire, but Cathy won it to set up a semi-final match with number 2 Claire Mill.
In the 1st semi-final Michelle French yet again played Michelle Sherwin. Sherwin was in top form today, and never really let French into the match, winning it comfortably 3-0. The other semi-final featured Claire Mill and Cathy Hunt. There was nothing to pick between these two, both showing a mix of nerves and brilliant potting all throughout the match. It was to be Cathy’s day however and she won the match by 3-1, to reach the final of her 1st ever snooker ranking event.
Michelle won the 1st 2 frames of the final comfortably, but the 3rd frame was a very close affair, with Cathy having her nose slightly ahead throughout the frame. Michelle got her nose ahead towards the end of the frame, leaving Cathy needing 1 snooker with 18 left on the table. Michelle had a few half chances at the blue, but each time the blue hit both sides of the pocket and came back out. After about 10mins of play on the blue, Michelle fluked the blue into the centre off the pink, to win the frame and match, and take her 2nd title of the year. The ladies would like to welcome Cathy Hunt and also send her a big congratulations to on reaching the final of her 1st ever ranking event.
Many thanks once again go to Sandra and Murt in Breakers for their wonderful hospitality (and all the cups of tea)
