The 4th ladies ranking event of the season took place on Saturday 26th January in Celbridge S.C. Current number 1 Michelle Sherwin was absent due to illness on the day, so Claire Mill was seeded 1 for the tournament and Sandra Bryan was no. 2. Claire played Treasa keegan in the semi-final, it was a tight 1st frame which Claire managed to nip, and in the 2nd frame Treasa missed the black to win the frame; leaving Claire a difficult pot to the centre sack to take a 2-0 lead; Claire played it dead weight and it knuckled and hung on the pocket for an easy pot for Treasa to level the match 1-1. After that Claire went up a gear and took the next 2 frames comfortably to win the match 3-1. The other semi-final was set to be a close match as it always is with Michelle French and Sandra Bryan and it did not dissapoint. All first 4 frames could have gone either way, but left the 2 players in a 2-2 tie with a final frame decider. Michelle was phsyched for this frame and had a great start to the frame getting 2 decent breaks to give herself the advantage; then laid an excellent snooker which Sandra failed to get out of and thus required a snooker. Sandra battled as best as she could but Michelle held her nerve and won the frame to reach her 1st final of the season, which has been very much deserved.
Michelle French and Claire Mill contested the final. Claire had hit a purple patch and played some fantastic snooker in the final, and she won the final very comfortably by 3-0, to win her 1st ranking event of the season and further consolidate her number 2 position in the rankings. Michelle confessed that she was exhausted after her close fought semi-final. A big thanks once again to Phil Martin for his use of the club and to Ray for kindly looking after the ladies today.
