Michelle Sherwin kept her winning streak going in what was a highly entertaining competition in Celbridge snooker club on Sunday October 8th.
All of the girls potted very well, especially Catherine Fitzsimons who potted some amazing long balls on her path to the final.
Michelle lost only one frame in the Round-Robin stage and it was not decided until the last frame, whether it would be Rhonda, Claire or Catherine that would meet her in the final.
Michelle took the opening frame with the help of a terrific 40 break. Catherine’s long potting let her down in the final with most of her attempts hitting the jaws and staying on the table. Michelle punished these mistakes and went two frames to nil in front. The third frame was nip and tuck with both players making mistakes. Catherine built up a 25 point lead before Michelle pulled it back and the scores were level going onto the colours.
Michelle’s experience came into play then and she forced a couple of mistakes from Catherine and went on to clinch the frame and match, 3 frames to nil.
Well done to all the girls on the terrific potting throughout the day. My thanks to Phil and James in Celbridge snooker club for the use of the facilities.
The next outing for the ladies is a development day in Carlow on November 19th with Irish National Coach PJ Nolan and I would ask any girls/ladies interested in snooker, as a player or referee or as a coach to please come along to the Ivy Rooms on November 19th and help us promote and improve the ladies game from 11am-3pm.
Ladies tournament director.
