Junior Billiards Event 1 2009/2010

The first RIBSA Under 19 Billiards Event of the season was held in Edenderry Snooker Club on Sunday.

This was an eagerly awaited competition and it was worth waiting for with the Top 8 seeds making it through to the Q- fianls.

Shane Menton No. 1 seed beat Dale Seery 280- 145
Ed Kearney beat Shane Lawlor 276 - 117
Wayne Doyle beat Daniel Dempsey 281 - 175

Ross Doyle's match against Mark Nolan was the match of the event with Ross leading for most of the game until Mark fought back to beat the current Under 14 No. 1 Snooker Player 263 - 252.

Semi Final
Shane beat Mark Nolan 280-240 and Wayne Doyle beat Ed Kearney 430 - 150.

In the Final Wayne beat Shane 381 - 186 to win the title.

This was the first ever Junior Billiards RIBSA Ranking Event and when you consider that some of these players had only started playing Billiards this year and the matches only lasting 1 hour the scores are impressive.

My thanks goes to the Committee of Edednerry Snooker Club for allowing me to use the club and to Gaylon Clancy and Andrew Leonard for refereeing the matches.

A special word of thanks to the RIBSA National Billiards Coach Aidan Murray who turned up and refereed matches and then coached the players after the event in how to play the shots to improve their game even more.

Tournament Breaks
Wayne Doyle 56, 44, 43, 41
Mark Nolan 29
Ross Doyle 27

Ross Doyle won the Plate Event when he beat Daniel Dempsey 230-150 in a superb final.
