Wayne Doyle Wins Junior Billiards Event 4
Wayne Doyle beat his brother Ross to win Event 4 of the RIBSA Junior under 19 Ranking Series in Edenderry Snooker Club on Sunday.
Having missed the last tournament in the series through illness, Wayne Doyle picked up where he left off in winning for the third time this season.
Mark Nolan showed good form in his quarter final match against Dale Seery, making two 30+ breaks each featuring ten hazards. For the first half of the semi final Wayne and Mark traded scores and a timely break of 46 from Wayne proved the difference.
In the other half of the draw Ross Doyle produced an upset in defeating U19 international Ed Kearney. This set up a semi final with current No 1 Shane Menton. The game was close throughout and when the "10 minutes" was called there was a number of safety exchanges. Ross emerged from these with the advantage to produce his second giantkilling act of the day and deny Shane his fourth appearance in a final.
And so the final was the battle of the Doyles. Ross was unable to upset the form for a third time and Wayne played consistently throughout to win easily including the high break of the day, a fine 64. Congratulations to Wayne and Ross.
Andrew Leonard won the plate beating Ed Kearney in the final.
The standard of billiards played was very high and a marked improvement is evident as the season progresses. Credit is due to RIBSA and Ger Murray in particular for running the series.
