Wayne Doyle Wins Junior Billiards Event 5
Event no. 5 of the u 19 billiards series took place at Edenderry snooker club on sunday march 3rd. No. 1 seed Wayne Doyle justified his seeding by winning this competition without too much trouble. Shane Menton, no. 2 seed, had his work cut out to hold off a strong and determined challenge from Ed. Kearney, in the semi-final (257, 237).
Fresh from his tv appearance on rte on friday, the ICE man Ross Doyle, kept his cool to see off a tough challenge from Pauric Slevin, and set up a semi-final meeting with his brother Wayne. Ed Kearney reached the semi-final with a fine victory over his friend Dale Seery.
Shane got the better start in the final building a 65 pt. lead after 10 minutes. Wayne eventually got into his stride and emerged a clear winner with the help of a great 63 break, final score 398, / 208.
The highest break of competition was a tremendous 65 from Wayne in the semi-final. In this break Wayne had to stop on 65, because he acheived 15 successive hazards.
Well done to Wayne. Comiserations to Shane,
The plate was won by Pauric Slevin who beat Dale Seery 236 to 118.
