Ger Delaney and Tommy Gleeson Ger Delaney and Tommy Gleeson

It was an all Tipperary affair in Carlow for the final of the 3rd Masters event with Nenagh's Tommy Gleeson just edging out Thurles player Ger Delaney by three frames to two in a superb final on Sunday. No.1 seed Gleeson had played some great snooker all day with 3-0 wins over Cork's Derek O'Neill and Edenderry's Shea Brereton before just getting over the line in the semi finals 3-2 against Limerick's Albert Hogan.

In the other half of the draw Delaney was in fine form and produced some great snooker to beat Jim Carrick and Brendan Cooney 3-0 to reach the quarters where he progressed thanks to a 3-1 win over Kevin McMahon. The semi saw him up against No.2 seed John Connolly who he just edged out 3-2 to reach the final against Glesson.

Elsewhere in the draw Tony Thorpe was in fine form knocking in a great 70 break in his 3-0 win over Dessie Sheehan before knocking out Irish Masters Champion Mark Tuite 3-1 before losing out 3-2 to Albert Hogan.  Tom Gleeson however outdid Tony on the day just piping him for the High Break prize with a 77 break later on in the day.

With 25 entries it was yet another great Masters event but one that was still reeling from the sad news of Declan Waters passing. Declan was a regular on the Irish Snooker Tour over the years and was a great friend to many involved in the Masters tour. He will be sadly missed and our thoughts go out to his family at this time.
