Muldoon victorious in Northwest

Vincent Muldoon returned to winning ways in The North West Snooker Club, Letterkenny today when he won the first of this season's Under 21 Ranking tournaments. He won his first match over Daniel Dempsey 3/0 but had to come from a frame down to beat Daniel O Regan 3/1 in the Quarter finals.

David Cassidy proved to be Muldoon's toughet challenge when they met in the semi final. The Corkman refused to lie down and came from behind twice only to lose out in a closely fought final frame. Jason Devaney from Mayo was Muldoon's final opponent. Having won the Under 19 tournament on Saturday at the Letterkenny venue,

Devaney kept his good form going with an excellent 3/0 win over Gareth Boyle(North West). Dane Daly Mulpeter was Jason's next victim and Devaney's brilliant weekend continued when he beat Greg Casey, Cork in the semi's 3/0 also.

The final itself was an excellent match. Muldoon was first to get going with a good 65 break in the first frame and he added a couple of 30 breaks to take the second frame aswell. Devaney replied with a 63 in the third. Both players had good chances in the fourth but it was Muldoon who made more of his chances and won the match 3/1.

CASSIDY HITS 114 BREAK

David Cassidy's high break of 114 came in the second frame of his thrilling quarter final match against clubmate Ryan Cronin. Cronin replied in the third frame with a 103. the final frame of that match saw Cronin go 45 ahead with only 2 reds remaining but unbelievably he went in off  and Cassidy had an excellent 43 clearance to advance to the semi's! Certainly match of the weekend!!

Thanks to John Doherty of the North West snooker Club for providing his excellent facilities once again.
