Wales Win Celtic Challenge

The 2012 Celtic Challenge was won today by a magnificent Welsh Team in the Terry Griffiths Matchroom in Wales in a fantastic display of junior snooker.

In session one Ireland won it 20 frames to 16 with the Under 16’s winning 11 -7 while the Under 14’s drawing 9-9 to get the Irish off to a great start.

Session two went to Welsh teams when they won 21 frames to 15 with the Under 16’s drawing 9-9 and the Under 14’s losing 12-6.

In session three Wales again won 20 to 16 with the Under 16’s losing 11-7 while the Under 14’s drew 9-9.

At the Interval the Overall score was Wales 57 frames – Ireland 51 Frames.

After lunch the Welsh team went into overdrive winning the fourth session 22 to 14 with the Under 16’s losing 10 frames to 8 and the Under 14’s losing 12 frames to 6.

In the fifth session the Welsh team won 26 – 10 with the 16’s losing 11-7 and the Under 14’s losing 15-3.

The sixth and final session had the result confirmed before a ball was struck but again the welsh potting army won it 25 – 11 with the 16’s losing 13-5 while the Under 14’s lost 12-6.

With all the frames added up it was an unstoppable win for the Welsh in retaining the title with 130 frames to Ireland 80 frames.

The perpetual cup was presented to the Welsh captain Travish Furnish and both the Welsh and Republic of Ireland association thanked Terry Griffiths for the use of his match room as the venue for the 2012 event.

The Overall Results of all our players was the following

Under 16’s

Andrew Doherty played 6 – Won 4 – Frames Won 13 lost 5

Chris Duffy played 6 – Won 0 – Frames Won 3 lost 15

Stephen Bateman played 6 – Won 2 – Frames Won 6 lost 12

Conor Harkin played 6 – Won 5 – Frames Won 11 lost 7

Ross Doyle played 6 – Won 2  – Frames Won 8 lost 10

Charlie Sweeney played 6 – Won 1  – Frames Won 6 lost 12

Under 16's played 36 Matches won 14 and lost 22

Under 16’s Frames Wales 70 – Ireland 38

Under 14’s

Michael Woods played 6 – Won 4 – Frames Won 12 lost 6

Darragh Cusack played 6 – Won 0 – Frames Won 2 lost 16

Eamon Harkin played 6 – Won 3 – Frames Won 9 lost 9

Fergal Quinn played 6 – Won 3 – Frames Won 8 lost 10

James Hurley played 6 – Won 0 – Frames Won 2 lost 16

Corey Ramsbottom played 6 – Won 1 – Frames Won 6 lost 12

Under 14 played 36 Matches won 11 and lost 25

Under 14’s Frames Wales 69 – Ireland 39

Celtic Challenge Match Score Wales 130 Frames – Ireland 86 Frames
