The Galway Snooker Premier League Kindly Sponsored By Martin Divilly Class Butchers Galwaywas concluded last weekend.
A total of 9 of Galways top players participated in the league with each player playing each other twice in the best of 7 matches and the top 4 after the league matches went on to a playoff for the title.
A lot of the league games were very close fought matches but was James Fennessy who finished top of the table followed closely byH ugh o Donnell ,Martin Divilly and James Corbett Fennessy and Corbett played out a marvellous match with 50 plus breaks in almost every frame and Fennessy narrowly seeing of a determined Corbett 5 frames to 4 after Corbett trailed 3 1 in the match.
The second semi final was a more one sided match with Hugh o Donnell seeing of an out of sorts Martin Divilly by 5 frames to 1 o Donnell played solid snooker and pinched the 2nd frames after trailing by 42 points in the frames with 3 reds left this seemed to unsettle his opponent an o Donnell convincingly went on to a comfortable victory .
The 2 finalists were the top 2 in the league standings so it was only fitting that the winner would come from o Donnell or Fennessy.
Both players seemed some what edgy in the open exchanges but Fennessy took the opening frame,o Donnell levelled the match with a 56 break and the next 2 frames were shared .Fennessy upped his game an produced three 50 plus breaks in the next three frames to close out the match for a 5 2 victory over a gallent runner and with it capture 2009 Galway Premier League,
