PTC Event in Killarney

This October Irish amateurs will be given the chance to compete alongside the Worlds top players as the PTC series rolls into Killarney. The PTC is part of the Players Tour Championships which are basically minor professional ranking events that allow amateurs to enter and run alongside the main tour. The event has yet to be confirmed by either party however all that remains is a site inspection and by all means its 99% certain to go ahead with the venue already listed in the WSA entry forms. The event which is to be held in the Killarney Convention Centre (Formerly INEC, part of the Gleneagle Hotel) will be held from the 20th to 23rd of October with the amateur pre-qualifying day on the Thursday the 20th and the 128 stage proper kicking off on the Friday and running through till Sunday. The event, like all PTC events will be a straight knockout event with all matches the Best of 7 and will be broadcast live on Eurosport over the weekend.

The event will be a great boost for Irish snooker with over 90 main tour pros due to enter the event along with an estimated 100+ amateurs with most events already this season over 200 entries. As this event is open to anybody its a great opportunity for all Irish snooker players to compete alongside their idols and the organisers expect the Irish leg of the PTC to attract a huge entry.

It will also be a feast of snooker for the average fan with an open plan layout which will allow everybody to view 4+ tables at a time during the early stages, so there won’t be a dull moment with 127 matches involving the pro ranks. The 6 Red World Championships was the last event that the Gleneagle Hotel hosted and this event aims to surpass that event and make this tournament a regular on the Irish Calendar. Although the Gleneagle have their own brand new tables this event will be played on WSA’s Star Tables and lighting system so the event will be fully up to pro standards.

Closing Date for the event is the 18th of August but we hear that due to the late confirmation of the venue the closing date for Amateur players may be extended into September. We will keep you up to date on developments as soon as we know more
