Aaron wins RIBSA U-18 IBSF Events 1

16 year old Aaron Hill from Crucible SC in Cork won the first IBSF / RIBSA Under 18 Snooker Ranking event of the season in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow on Saturday 2nd of February 2019.

The final featured two of our young rising stars of the game in Aaron Hill and Ross Bulman from Youghal CYMS and both players were in excellent form. The final was great quality but it was Aaron who won the opening frame to led 1-0, back came Ross with fantastic 122 break to level match at 1-1. Aaron won the third to led 2-1 and won the fourth on the black to win the match 3-1 and goes Number 1 in rankings for China.

These RIBSA rankings events are being held to qualify players for the IBSF World U-18 Snooker Championships which will be held in China later on this year.

In the semi finals Aaron beat Ryan McGuirk in a fantastic break-building display when he made 45, 102 and 129 in a 3-0 win. In the other semi Ross Bulman beat Jack Newman 3-1 in the other semi with a top break of 70 in the match.

  • Missed 147

Aaron Hill almost made it an extra special day for Irish Junior Snooker when he got close to a 147 break after potting 15 reds and 14 blacks he missed the 15th black going up for the yellow on 113 Break.

  • Four Centuries

Aaron Hill made 102, 113,  and a 129 break to win the highest break in the event just piping Ross’s 122 break.

National Coach PJ Nolan was the TD on the Day and he was delighted with the quality of snooker on show for all the players at the event.

Luke Bateman from the Kilkenny Shed won the plate event today when he beat Noel Gleeson in a great final. Luke beat Aaron Smith and Noel beat Lewis Casserly in the plate semi finals.

RIBSA Congratulate Luke on his win. Under 18 Event 2 is planed for the 9th of March in the Ivy Rooms SC in Carlow so do not forget to Enter.


All eyes will go to tomorrows event when the first U-21 event of the season will be held to qualify players for the World IBSF U-21 also in China.

  • Full Qualification System for IBSF U-18 Championships 

The Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association have announced qualification for the 2019 IBSF World Under 18 and Under 21 Championships which will be held in 2019.

RIBSA will hold three International IBSF Ranking tournaments plus a National Championship.  These events are open to all the underage players and if any player loses their first match on the day they can play in a plate event on the same day.

  • Format

The IBSF International events will be the best of 5 frames including the final and the Plate event will be the best of 3 frames including the final.

  • Closing Dates

The closing date for entries will be the Friday before each event @1pm and the draw will be then published on the ribsa web site at 3pm.

  • Entry Fee

The entry fee is €10.00 plus Reg. Trophies will be awarded to the plate winner and runner up of the three events and a prize fund will be awarded for the International events.

  • Tournament Director

This structure will be organised by our National Coach PJ Nolan who will be the Tournament Director.  This Qualification will run from February to May to qualify players for the IBSF Championships in 2019.

  • All juniors can qualify

All juniors have an extra chance to qualify for the IBSF events through the Senior Rankings as RIBSA will give the highest ranked junior on the senior ranking a qualifying spot at the closing date. This is to encourage more juniors to compete in our senior events.
