Face Coverings

The following replies were received from NGB section of Sport Ireland re. Clarity on wearing face coverings.

As you are aware from the 16th July face coverings should be worn by all customers in shops and shopping centers across the country. Retail staff will also be required to wear a face covering unless there is a partition between them and members of the public or where there is a distance of 2 metres between them and members of the public. Regulations, with details on enforcement and penalties are in the process of being drafted.

· Face coverings are required on public transport.

· Face coverings are recommended for retail outlets and other places where it is difficult to maintain social distancing.

· All Guidance on safe use of face coverings is available below.

There is nothing specific on sport. Typically, they are not recommended for sport & exercise however given the indoor and less physical nature of snooker if participants cannot maintain social distancing for long periods of time it may be worthwhile RIBSA recommending their use. There is no fixed position on the matter.

The Gov.ie website has been updated in the last few minutes since I sent the original, to reflect the below: (it still has no bearing on the previous guidance regarding sport)

Face coverings are required on public transport.
