Rebel Snooker

THE Cork Billiards and Snooker Association held their Annual General Meeting at the AOH Club recently and Timmy Murphy the outgoing and re-elected Secretary/Treasurer started proceedings with a report and a reflection on what was a brilliant year for the Association in the 2001-2011 season and said that he hoped that the 2011-2012 season would be even better.

The whole meeting agreed unanimously that the closure of Shooters was very disappointing and that the league were very regretful that league champions of last year would not be there this year to defend their title. There is no doubt that Shooters will be missed in the league, they were a very good team with some top class players and definitely the league cannot afford to lose top class sides like the Blackpool club.
Also Fermoy will not be in the Cork Snooker League this year. The North Cork team fell short of completing fixtures last year with a lack of senior players, but having said that the Fermoy CYMS will still be very much part of the Cork Billiards and Snooker Association set up. There will be the same amount of teams as last season as the four home clubs, Youghal CYMS, The Crucible, Douglas Snooker Club and the AOH will battle it out in the league which starts on Thursday the 22nd of September.
Youghal CYMS will have three teams, Douglas and the Crucible will play two teams and the AOH will have a side.
The venues and some dates were also decided last night in the Individual and respective team tournaments. The emphasis on developing more competitive snooker for under-age players was strong and this year there will be a ‘Junior Orme Shield’ as well as the senior event, with the Junior event set at under 17 on the age on the 30th of June.
