WEEK Two has shown that the powerhouses of Cork Snooker will again be there or thereabouts again this year as Douglas ‘A’, Youghal CYMS ‘A’ and the AOH all recorded back to back victories in the Cork Snooker and Billiards Association (CBSA) snooker league.
The AOH notched up an away victory in Youghal and get themselves three points for the away win and managed it without the services of their number one player Shane O’Mahony.
The AOH won the match by eight frames to three frames, but had to work on all tables to take the points.
Sonny Stack is back in good form for the AOH and with the inclusion of PTC 8 bound Kevin O’Leary, the Morrision’s Island team look strengthened this year.
Youghal CYMS ‘A’ were victorious over fellow Society team Youghal CYMS ‘B’ in an all home battle last Thursday evening in the Market House venue.
Aaron Tobin has returned into the Youghal ‘A’ side and he brings a lot of quality back into the Youghal ‘A’ team squad and they could take some stopping this year.
Douglas Snooker Club ‘A’ were also in fine form against the Douglas ‘B’ team. Douglas are brimming with confidence as Gerry O’Sullivan and Karl Busteed were both three frames to nil winners in their matches.
Douglas Snooker Club is a transformed venue nowadays, with beautiful tables all re-clothed and running perfectly. The atmosphere in the club is superb, it really is a stunning snooker venue.
Of course that Douglas confidence will be tested severley by the Crucible this coming Tuesday night as the likes of Grey Casey, David Cassidy and Ryan Cronin will get their first outing in this years league.
Greg Casey speaking to Rebel Snooker said “I can’t wait to get back playing competitively again. We have been practicing hard ahead of the Douglas match and we know they are a good side and we are looking forward to this season. It is going to be a very tough league again, but that shows that Cork Snooker is going really well at the moment”.
There is no doubt whatsoever , but when the Crucible start of their league campaign there will be a real sense of balance to proceedings. Youghal CYMS ‘A’, Douglas ‘A’ and the AOH have started well with home and away wins with five points each, but to be honest they would have been expected to win those games, so we have not learnt a lot yet in terms of the main contenders meeting each other.
This week when the Crucible are back in, it will be a good indicator to where the winners of the CBSA snooker league 2011-2012.
