Cork’s Ryan Cronin captured the first Under-19 Ranking Event title of the season in the Victoria Club, Limerick beating his club mate David Cassidy 3-2 in the final. Cronin started the day as the No.1 seed and he certainly proved that as he only dropped one frame on his way to the final.
The youngster saw off Youghal’s Lee Walsh 3-0 in the first round before dispatching Ballina’s Aaron Moyles by the same scoreline in the quarter finals to et up a showdown with Josh Boileau in the semi finals. Boileau would certainly be a tougher match but Cronin was in top form today and saw off Josh three frames to one to reach the final.
The other half of the draw Cassidy reach the final without dropping a frame with wins over Reece Roche, Cathal Dunne and Chris Cooney. The final saw him up against his Crucible team mate but it was Croning this time round who hit top form knocking in breaks of 60 and 61 on his way to a 3-2 victory to take the title.
There were a few shocks in the early rounds with early defeats for the likes of Daniel O’Regan and Daniel Dempsey so this years Under-19 series should be interesting as everyone battles to get the top spots and qualify for the Home International teams.
