Ireland win 2017 Celtic Challenge

The Republic Of Ireland Junior teams won the Celtic Challenge in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow on Sunday the 25th of June. This event featured the best Under 14 and Under 16 players from the Republic Of Ireland and Wales and in the end Ireland won the title 106 points to 90 points. This year four tables were live streamed via the ribsa web site.  

Team Captain Ross Bulman and Noel Gleeson were presented with the perpetual cup by RIBSA Chairman Jim Leacy and RIBSA President Eamon Kearns.  Noel Gleeson won player of the Tournament with 10 points from the possible 12 frames.

National Coach PJ Nolan said he was delighted with the win as 12 of the 14 players are underage for next years event. Full Results of each session can be found below with all the player stats from the event.

There was five sessions played on Saturday and two sessions of play played on the Sunday.

Session 1: Ireland won 15 – 13 Wales

Session 2: Wales won 16 – 12 Ireland

Session 3: Ireland won 15 – 13 Wales 

Session 4: Wales won 15 – 13 Ireland

Session 5: Ireland won 20 – 8 Wales

Session 6: Ireland and Wales drew 14-14

Sesion 7: Ireland won 17 -11 Wales

Total Score: Ireland 106 – Wales 90


RIBSA Under 14 Team was Noel Gleeson, Joe La Cumbre, Aaron Smith, Patrick Daly, Adam Quinn, Oisin Bateman and Ronan McGuirk. The Team Managers were Declan Quinn and PJ Nolan.

RIBSA Under 16 Team was Ross Bulman, Aaron Hill, Ryan McGuirk, Aaron Goldrick, Colum Morley, John Joyce and Luke Bateman. The Managers were Brendan Cooney and James Bateman.

Welsh Under 16 Team was Dylan Emery, Harry Bond, Alfie Davies, Ethan Jenkins, Lewis Sinclair, Ryan Bowgen and Rhys Morgans. Welsh Under 14 team was Liam Davies, Oliver Bridle, Oliver Briffit-Payne, Ben Massey, Thierry Cullinane, Bradley Tyson and Jacob Boyle.  Their Officials were Anthony Davies, Darryl James and Eugene O’Connor.
