The 6th Ladies ranking event took place in Q’s snooker club on Saturday 7th April. Catherine Fitzsimons made her return to the ranking series after a short absence. She played on form Sandra Bryan, and it was not to be a triumphant return for Catherine as Sandra quickly seen her off 3-0 in their quarter-final. On the other side of the draw Treasa keegan played number 3 Michelle French. As is usual with these two, this match went all the way to the wire, with Michelle narrowly winning on the pink in the final frame to win the match 3-2. Michelle went on to meet Michelle Sherwin in the semi-final, and she had a great chance to take the opening frame, being 31 ahead with just 43 on the table. The number 1 held her nerve however and cleared the remaining balls to take the frame; this knocked Michelle Frenchs confidence and she just couldn’t get her form going again, letting Michelle run away the winner of the match 3-0. The other semi-final seen current number 2 Claire Mill take on Sandra Bryan. This was a very hard fought battle, and although Sandra took a2-0 lead; Claire didn’t let her gead drop and came out fighting in the 3rd frame. However, no matter how well she played Sandra matched and bettered her, and deservedly went on to win the 3rd frame and the match 3-0, to reach her 1st final of the season. There was nothing much to pick between them in the 1st 2 frames of the final, but Michelle Sherwin had managed to take the both of them to take a 2 frame lead. In the 3rd frame Michelle took a decent lead, then she wrapped up the frame and match with a 34 clearance to the pink. Congratulations to Michelle Sherwin on winning all of the 6 ranking events this season and retaining her number 1 position on the ladies rankings.
The ladies would like to extend their thanks to chris and all of the staff at Q’s for their help on the day.
