The partnership of Robert Murphy and Wayne Doyle won the Doubles Tournament held today in the Ivy Rooms, Carlow. Two groups of 6 battled it out in the best of three down to the last 8.
Rodney Goggins, seeded No. 1, paired with Adrian Morrissey fromWexford got a quick exit when faced by the dynamic due of George Tierney and Colvin O’Brien. That was the end of the road though for these two when they came up against the Cork pairing of Greg Casey and David Cassidy who had seen off Mark Tuite and Ryan Cronin in the previous round.
The bottom half of the draw saw two very close faught matches between Philip Browne/George O’Hara and Benny O’Brien/James Bateman with the Kilkenny due coming out 3-2 victors. While on the table beside them Albert Hogan and John Torpey were doing battle with Robert Murphy and Wayne Doyle with the latter emerging 3-2 winners.
In the semi-final Robert and Wayne proved the stronger side with a 3-1 win over Benny and James. The same pattern followed in the final with Robert Murphy and Wayne Doyle overcoming the Cork duo with a 3-1 win.
