Connors victorious in Donegal

The second Intermediate of the season took place at the CYMS Snooker club in Letterkenny last Sunday.  There was a small but talented entry of 9 players from Sligo and Donegal.

The preliminary match saw two of last year’s winners, Mickey Duffy (Twin Towns Snooker Club) and Phelim Mc Clafferty (CYMS)play off for a quarter final place, Phelim made use of the home advantage and took the match 3-0.  In the next round Phelim defeated another event winner from last year Sean Mc Veigh (North West Snooker Club) by 3 frames to 2.

Below this in the draw Conor Henderson (Twin Towns) was defeated 3-1 by John Connors (CYMS) this set up club-mates Connors and Mc Clafferty for a semi final in the top half of the draw.  John Connors showed his talent by winning 3-0 in a tough battle.

In the bottom half of the draw Garet Kirwin (CYMS) took on Paddy Brady (Sligo), Garet eased his way to the semi with a 3-0 victory.  Team mates Conor Harkin and Paul Mc Ginley, both from the North West Snooker club slogged it out at the bottom of the table.  Paul Mc Ginley’s experience saw him go through after a tough fight with the 16 year old Harkin, the match went all the way 3-2.

The semi final was another tough match with Kirwin taking it in the final frame, the match ending 3-2 and Mc Ginley was out but shared the high break prize with Kirwin with both players having 55 breaks.

The all CYMS final saw the talented Connors come from behind to take the last frame with a 54 break.  Kirwin remains No1 on the rankings after reaching both finals so far this year.
