On Saturday last 24 November Benny O’Brien from Kilkenny won the 3rd event in the South East Intermediate tour. This event was played in St. Conleths CYMS Newbridge as a double elimination competition with all the entrants up to the semi finals getting a second chance. Given that this was the first time we have tried this format the tournament ran smoothly with very few delays. My thanks to all the competitors for their tolerance and patience.
In the semi finals Benny defeated Stephen Walsh from Carrick-on-Suir by 3 frames to 2 and Daniel Dempsey from St. Conleths CYMS Newbridge beat his club mate Joe Corrigan 3 – 0. The final was played at a breakneck speed with both players going for everything. Benny’s long potting proved the deciding factor winning 3 -0 in 55 minutes. Congratulations to all 17 entrants for an excellent day of snooker.
Once again Newbridge CYMS are due our thank for providing first class playing conditions.
